Sunnybrook Stories
Giving In Numbers No matter where you are at Sunnybrook, you can always recognize a member of the Sunnybrook Volunteer Association (SVA) by their cobalt blue jacket or vest. Every year, more than 700 volunteers, ranging from high school students to retirees, spend more than 117,000 volunteer hours providing 60 services to our patients, residents and visitors. Since 1969, the SVA has funded numerous equipment purchases and unit-based projects through initiatives such as the Gift Shop and Green Thumbs. Although these donations have enhanced patient care in many areas, the SVA decided their contributions would have greater impact if all of their resources were dedicated to one project. As a result, the SVA made a generous six-year pledge of $1.5 million in support of the Emergency Department Expansion Project, scheduled for completion in 2009. The SVA’s contribution will be recognized with the naming of “The Sunnybrook Volunteer Association Registration and Triage Centre” located in the new Emergency and Trauma Centre.
